Local Man To Regret Selecting Kanye’s “Gold Digger” for Karaoke Night

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA—A fun corporate team building event at a karaoke bar is about to turn into an awkward night of regret, DeAndre Washington reported Friday. According to Washington, the evening began to turn when one of his co-workers, Connor Murphy, took the mic and began singing Kanye West’s ‘Gold Digger‘.

Washington’s firm occasionally sponsors Friday karaoke nights at Thunder’s Bar and Grille as a way to build constructive relationships between their diverse employees.

The group signed up to perform as soon as they entered the bar to ensure they were registered before all the slots had been taken.  “I asked Connor what song he had picked”, Washington said, “and he told me, ‘Don’t worry about it’.  If he had told me what he’d picked, I definitely could have saved him some embarrassment if not a full-blown ass-beatin’.”

“Things were going OK through the first verse, but with that hook coming I can tell it’s going to end badly,” Washington added as Murphy shamelessly belted out “Now I ain’t saying she’s a gold digger,” the opening line of the controversial chorus.

“Connor better see what’s coming too and mumble or fade off or something,” Washington said without much confidence.  “Or we’re going to have a problem.”

At press time, Washington reported that the next inebriated singer from their group, Chase Campbell, had asked the emcee if he had any N.W.A. songs.
